Our Research Team

Our research team have diverse expertise, talents and experienced in interest areas. The UMS Biosensors Research Group includes scientists, postgraduate students, undergraduate students, technical and support staff from Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The research team also has collaborated with researchers at other universities and institute within and outside of the countries. Provide access to a network of skilled professional research and specialist input to projects when required. Thanks to the efforts of all of our committed team members that we are able to conduct such successful research studies.

Dr. Md. Shafiquzzaman Siddiquee is a senior Lecturer of Biosensor and Bioelectronics at the Biotechnology Research Institute, UMS. Completing his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Agriculture at the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh in 1998. In 2004, he was awarded a Universiti Scholarship in UPM to pursue his Master of Science in Molecular Microbiology. In 2008, he was pursue his doctoral thesis on Electrochemical DNA biosensor at UPM. Dr. Siddiquee current research focus on chemical, optical and biosensor based research and also involving production of biofertilizer from oil palm fibres and rice straw and removal of heavy metals from sediments and wastewater.

Brig. Jen. Prof. Datuk Dr. Kamaruzaman Hj. Ampon received his Bachelor's Degree (Biochemistry) from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, then went on to graduate with a MSc. from University of York, United Kingdom as well as his Ph.D from The Ohio State University, United States of America. He began his career as a lecturer in Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (now Universiti Putra Malaysia) in 1979 and later moved to Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 1995, where he is currently a Professor of Biochemistry in the Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI) at UMS, and also the former of Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
